Principal Systems Engineer, Platform & Infrastructure

About the role...

In this role you can expect to design, build, and implement solutions as we scale HashiCorp’s IT operations. As a fast-growing start up, we envision leveraging our own HashiCorp tools, such as Terraform, to approach building and maintaining solutions to our complex technical IT challenges. We have great endpoint management tools in place and are looking for this seasoned engineer to help us scale our IT infrastructure framework and enhance operations.

We are particularly interested in someone who thinks critically and approaches resolving problems creatively. Communication is key on the HashiCorp IT Team, so the ideal candidate will be a great communicator who pays close attention to detail. We are a distributed team that values humility, humanity, and bright personalities; someone who is flexible and can work independently as well as collaboratively.

In this role you can expect to…

  • Design and architect solutions to complex systematic IT problems with a build vs buy mindset - taking our systems from their siloed states to interconnected states
  • Work with Infrastructure team to architect and implement single pane glass window for reporting on all HashiCorp-owned information assets, which includes but is not limited to hardware assets, software assets, and office network infrastructure
  • Work beside IT leadership to devise and lead execution plans to scale our IT environments by leveraging HashiCorp tools (i.e. Terraform for Okta, Terraform for Jamf, etc.)
  • Work with our team of Sr Systems Engineers and cross functionally to strategize and achieve as close to 100% automated workflows (i.e. streamlining onboarding/offboarding process, maintain automation of HRIS as a Source configuration, etc.)
  • Build efficient reporting, monitoring, and alerting for hardware and software assets - for system visibility across IT & other HashiCorp business functions
  • Identify risks, gaps, and problem areas in our systems, architect and design a solution and lead the team to implement with the support of IT leadership
  • Own and maintain InfraOps Github, AWS, and other virtualized environments
  • Serve as a high level escalation point for platform issues beyond the scope of Desktop Support

You may be a good fit for our team if you have…

  • DevOps minded IT professional who is a subject matter expertise in automation, virtualization and cloud engineering
  • Coding/scripting and debugging experience for building and integrating systems & solutions (Bash, Python, C++, Java, etc.) 
  • Demonstrated experience of successfully designing, developing, and implementing solutions that serve as sources of truth for user ⇔ information asset correlation
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of macOS and Linux environments
  • Demonstrated professional experience facilitating and leading seamless system integrations between IT systems & business systems 
  • Expertise with Github, AWS, Google API comfortable building and managing within these environments
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills 
  • Experience tracking tickets via ZenDesk, JIRA or other enterprise ticketing or agile methodology systems
  • Excellent communication and mentorship skills
  • Eagerness and ability to learn quickly and independently with provided means and resources
