About the position
You’ll be part of a team building the future of Consul’s Web UI application as we look to expand its capabilities and further empower Consul users to manage their clusters. Today, the app provides information at a glance about the user’s service mesh, including network topology, service health, ACL configuration, KV store, and more. You’ll play a crucial role in extending the capabilities of the Consul UI to unlock its potential for managing Consul clusters through intuitive, beautiful UIs that aim to simplify the complexity of the product. You’ll work directly with a small, focused team of frontend engineers and designers. The main areas of your work include:
- Providing technical leadership and guidance to other engineers on the team
- Building high-quality and performant user interfaces that drive Consul product-specific functionality
- Collaborating with product designers on shaping user flows during the design process
- Authoring and completing architectural plans
- Working alongside other front end engineers at HashiCorp around standard methodologies and shared components
- Collaborating with other specialists on the core team on driving API changes vital to build the best user experience for our users
We are a small but growing team, and this role will give you the opportunity to influence architectural and engineering decisions as we scale.
In this role, you can expect to:
- Work across our product, primarily on the front-end (We use Ember.js, but do not require Ember experience)
- Drive technical architecture and product strategy
- Work with HashiCorp products such as Terraform, Consul, Vault, and Nomad
- Work with multiple cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure
- Provide code review, mentorship, and support to HashiCorp employees, community members, and partners
- Be a part of a distributed team (we’re in North America and Europe)
You may be a great fit if some of the following apply:
- Experience with front-end frameworks and libraries (Ember, React, Svelte, Vue, etc.)
- Experience as a technical lead
- Value communication, kindness, and pragmatism as much as technical skill

- Documentation and comments help you better understand your code
- Value thoughtfulness and curiosity in your work
- Previous experience using Consul
