Learn about the replatforming effort at Mastercard Data and Services that brought scale, speed, and agility to the forefront of datacenter deployments and operations.
This talk describes the replatforming effort at Mastercard Data and Services that brought scale, speed, and agility to the forefront of datacenter deployments and operations. It will also highlight the “soft side” of adopting HashiCorp open source products (Terraform, Packer, and Vault) focusing on change resistance, change management, and change competency.
» Background
Uniting technology, engineers and process is often the bottleneck in many technology roadmaps. Patterns like infrastructure as code and config as code, which are prevalent within HashiCorp’s ecosystem of tools, are valuable to adopt but require changes in mindset and process to be fully impactful across an organization. Likewise, when organizations need to bridge new tools with existing systems, shifts in team responsibilities and capabilities may be needed to facilitate successful integration.
Altogether, tool adoption is often not a linear technology process but a whirlwind of “soft” factors. This talk will break down lessons learned into practical, general-purpose techniques to manage change, build consensus, and enable sustainable patterns.
