Defeat the "Computer Setup Blues" and Get Coding Faster with Backpack
Once upon a time, as a code school instructor, I employed numerous techniques to prepare my students' computers for my class. Bring-Your-Own-Computer culture allows us to manage the increase in individuals pursuing tech careers and help employers develop flexible working models. Despite the differences between my coworkers' computers, I want to ensure everyone can get started with minimal friction. This talk covers how I used Nomad to empower my fully remote team of engineers in a matter of weeks —starting with what we built at Civic Hacker to furnish consistent, reasonably secure developer environments. I will mention the setup's benefits, limitations, and general security considerations for real-world usage.
