Cloud Partner

HashiCorp’s Vagrant plugin for VMware was one of the earliest integrations between the two companies and one of the most popular services offered to the DevOps community. Since then, HashiCorp and VMware have worked together to provide more tools for provisioning and managing VMware infrastructure, both in the cloud and on-premise data centers. Terraform offers two dedicated providers for organizations that are operating in vSphere or on the NSX platform and Terraform Enterprise can be deployed as a private install for bare-metal and private cloud instances. As the collaboration between the two companies continues, HashiCorp and VMware will work to fully integrate the whole product suite with VMware’s various offerings.

How VMware works with HashiCorp Product Suite

Provision Infrastructure

Operators moving into the cloud face three unique challenges: addressing infrastructure heterogeneity, managing scale, and enabling self service consumption across organizations. To address these challenges for users adopting VMware NSX-T or vSphere, HashiCorp offers a dedicated Terraform provider for the purpose of provisioning and managing VMware cloud-based services. Users can write configurations using infrastructure as code, check them into version control, version them, and run a few commands to test and apply changes to their VMware infrastructure.

Run Applications

Nomad is a flexible, enterprise-grade cluster scheduler that can run a diverse workload of micro-service, batch, containerized and non-containerized applications. Nomad's lightweight architecture and zero external dependencies minimize operational overhead in any on-prem or public cloud environment. Nomad Enterprise adds collaboration and governance capabilities, allowing organizations to run Nomad in a multi-team setting and meet governance and policy requirements. Users on VMware are able to run Docker-based or legacy, non-containerized workloads on both Linux and Windows using a common workflow.
